Private Firearm License

A private firearm license is issued by the Firearms Licensing Department, Ministry of National Security. It is granted to those who meet the threshold conditions and one of the established eligibility criteria. The process includes an online application, supporting documents and, in some cases, a personal interview. The office accompanies applicants in submitting the application, in an appeal against a negative decision, and in handling an existing license.

Frequently asked questions

Is everyone eligible for a license?

No. You must meet the threshold conditions and one of the eligibility criteria. Even someone who meets them may be refused, for example because of a criminal record or medical information.

Can I submit the application myself?

Yes. Submission is online and open to everyone. Legal support is relevant mainly when there is doubt about eligibility, when there is information that may affect the decision, or after a rejection.

My application was rejected. What can I do?

You can file an appeal with the Department. There is a time limit for filing an appeal, counted from the day the decision is received, so it is advisable to contact us early.

My license was suspended or revoked. Can anything be done?

It depends on the reason. We review the decision and its reasons, and accordingly decide whether to approach the authority or file an objection.
